Six documentary films follow six handloom traditions to the places they are made, from the silk of Bihar and Assam to the looms of Madhya Pradesh, Kashmir, Telangana and Gujarat. छह वृत्तचित्र छह हथकरघा परंपराओं को उन जगहों तक ले जाते हैं जहाँ वे बनती हैं, बिहार और असम के रेशम से लेकर मध्य प्रदेश, कश्मीर, तेलंगाना और गुजरात के करघों तक।

The films play in the gallery at Handloom Haat, where all six can be watched in full in English or Hindi. Bhagalpur, on the Ganga in Bihar, has been known for so long for its silk that the town is called India's Silk City. The film follows tussar silk there, from cocoon and reeled yarn to the handlooms of the town's weaving families. बिहार में गंगा के किनारे बसा भागलपुर अपने रेशम के लिए इतने समय से जाना जाता है कि इस शहर को भारत की सिल्क सिटी कहा जाता है। यह फ़िल्म वहाँ के तसर रेशम की यात्रा दिखाती है: कोये और कते धागे से लेकर शहर के बुनकर परिवारों के हथकरघों तक।

Muga is the golden silk of Assam, produced nowhere else in the world. The film follows the silkworm, reared in the open on som and soalu trees, and the reeling and weaving that turn its cocoon into cloth prized for its natural sheen. मूगा असम का सुनहरा रेशम है, जो संसार में और कहीं नहीं होता। फ़िल्म उस रेशम कीट को दिखाती है जिसे सोम और सोआलू के पेड़ों पर खुले में पाला जाता है, और उस कताई-बुनाई को जो उसके कोये को अपनी प्राकृतिक चमक के लिए सराहे जाने वाले कपड़े में बदल देती है।

Maheshwar Sarees and Fabricsमहेश्वर की साड़ियाँ और वस्त्र

Maheshwar stands on the Narmada in Madhya Pradesh, and its weaving is traced to the patronage of Rani Ahilyabai Holkar in the eighteenth century. The film looks at the Maheshwari saree, woven in cotton and silk and known for its fine borders. महेश्वर मध्य प्रदेश में नर्मदा के तट पर बसा है, और यहाँ की बुनाई अठारहवीं शताब्दी में रानी अहिल्याबाई होलकर के संरक्षण से जुड़ी मानी जाती है। यह फ़िल्म महेश्वरी साड़ी को देखती है, जो सूती और रेशमी दोनों में बुनी जाती है और अपने बारीक किनारों के लिए जानी जाती है।

Pashmina begins high on the plateau, where the winter fleece of the Changthangi goat is combed to separate the soft down from the coarse hair. The film follows the fibre to Kashmir, where it is hand-spun on the charkha and woven into shawls. पश्मीना की शुरुआत ऊँचे पठार पर होती है, जहाँ चांगथांगी बकरी की जाड़े की पश्म से मुलायम रोयें को मोटे बालों से अलग किया जाता है। फ़िल्म इस रेशे के साथ कश्मीर पहुँचती है, जहाँ इसे चरखे पर हाथ से काता जाता है और शॉलों में बुना जाता है।

Pochampally Ikatपोचमपल्ली इकत

In the weaving villages around Pochampally in Telangana, the pattern is dyed into the yarn before a single thread is woven. Bundles are tied, dipped and untied, so the design appears only as the loom brings warp and weft together. तेलंगाना में पोचमपल्ली के आसपास के बुनकर गाँवों में, एक भी धागा बुने जाने से पहले ही नमूना धागे में रँग दिया जाता है। लच्छियाँ बाँधी जाती हैं, रंग में डुबोई जाती हैं और फिर खोली जाती हैं, इसलिए नमूना तभी उभरता है जब करघा ताने और बाने को आपस में मिलाता है।

The Dangasia weavers of Surendranagar in Gujarat twist tiny beads of contrast yarn onto the warp as they weave, so that the pattern stands up from the cloth in raised dots, daana, across shawls and wraps. गुजरात के सुरेंद्रनगर के डांगसिया बुनकर बुनते समय ताने पर विपरीत रंग के धागे के नन्हे दाने मरोड़ देते हैं, जिससे शॉलों और ओढ़नियों पर नमूना कपड़े से उभरे हुए दानों में खड़ा दिखता है। इन्हीं दानों से इसका नाम पड़ा है।
